    1. This book is full of caricatures the buttoned up elderly civil servant, the twinkling Italian cook with the white moustache, the Irish rogue, the Italian stallion Some of the story lines are quite ridiculous, and the end is so ridiculously schmaltzy and weepy, tying up all the loose ends I absolutely loved it I couldn t put it down, and I can say it s a book I really thoroughly enjoyed every moment of How often can you say that, eh

    3. I ve enjoyed reading Elly Griffiths crime books and discovered somewhere along the way that this was a pseudonym of Domenica De Rosa De Rosa s books looked rather girly and chick lit like and not really my kind of thing When I spotted one in the library though I picked it up to have a look and ended up absorbed by it The Summer School of the title is a fortnight long writing workshop taking place in a renovated castle in Tuscany The characters seemed a bit stereotypical to start with but most of [...]

    5. I really enjoyed this I think it must be hard for an author to write about a writing course, or make comments on stories without being judged themselves on their ability of writing an enjoyable book, but that wasn t the case with De Rosa I also admire the author for coming up with so many characters, all different, for just one book, so that you are pulled in to the beautiful tuscan scenery and the castello I enjoyed the variety of characters and the many twists and revelations that kept coming [...]

    7. Summer School has been republished in 2017 as One Summer in Tuscany Set in the idyllic Tuscan hills, Patricia Wilson s 18th century home earns its keep or tries to by playing host to guests on a residential creative writing course The two week course includes tuition from author Jeremy Bullen and features sightseeing trips into Rome and Florence as well as the chance to explore the local landscape For the guests it is a chance to hone their writing skills and to have their writing critiqued by a [...]

    8. Didn t want to stop reading, didn t want to finish this one All came crashing to a very satisfactory finish Good fun.

    9. This week I read Summer School by Domenica de Rosa Maggie Normandy Life sent it to me, and I enjoyed this book It is the perfect beach or lake read This book is difficult to find here in the states, but has a few copies.Have you ever wanted to take a vacation where you learn something new or improve skills you already have I would love to attend an art workshop in a beautiful place Paris, Sedona, Florence, or maybe even San Francisco I have friends who have travelled to France for cooking classe [...]

    12. Summer School is light reading on the whole Almost YA but not quite, as most of the protagonists are older and are dealing with some serious issues. This novel is about a live in creative writing course, held in an Italian castle The characters range from Patricia, the owner manager the writers Patricia s son and her ex husband Aldo, the charming Italian gourmet cook Jeremy, the tutor to others Most of them have segments told from their point of view and as most of them swear and blaspheme a lot, [...]

    13. This is one of those really lovely books that whisks you away to a gorgeous setting in the Tuscan countryside By midway through chapter 2 I was already Googling holiday apartment rentals in San Gigminano.I listed to the audio version which may be why I lost track of a couple of the characters and got a couple of them mixed up There are quite a few personalities to remember, covering most of the stereotypes that you ll find in any holiday tour package By the end though I found them all again and [...]

    15. I found this book an enjoyable read Mary, Cat, Anna, Sam, JP, Sally, Dorothy and Rick are off to Tuscany to stay in a 13th century Italian castle where a writer Jeremy will give his expertise with some tips on how to write a novel, mind you, it has been awhile since he had a book published. The castle is run by an English woman Patricia, she lives there with an assistant, her son Matthew and Aldo comes in daily to cook While this group of writers are here she takes on Fabio as a handy man. They al [...]

    16. I really loved this book with its dreamy descriptions of the Tuscan country side and the tasty Italian food cooked by Aldo for the guests, that stayed at the castello The characters are well developed and the landscapes are described in such detail, that it felt indeed like a having been on a holiday in Italy without having even left the house.I am a bit sad that my holiday is over and my fellow travellers have all gone This book had it all romance, an edge of darkness, nostalgia.

    18. What a charming book Domenica De Rosa wrote about so many of my favourite subjects in one novel travel, Italy, Tuscany house, good food, romance, some light comedy, writing, and the publishing industry It looks light and fluffy on the outside but I was deeply engrossed in it from the start and could not put it down If I could rate it 4.5 stars I would but unfortunately it quite does not reach that 5 star quality.

    19. I finished Summer School last night and it is a perfect way to transport yourself away from this cold, wet weather into a world of eternal sunshine, delicious food and great characters. The descriptions of the Tuscan countryside and towns, along with the fabulously well drawn characters really kept my attention The castle and the learners on the creative writing course are wonderful if a bit over the top at times.Well worth a read.

    20. I picked up this book because of its main subject the creative writing summer school I thought I would love reading about it, since I would like to enroll in such a thing someday It turns out the author could have taken one of those courses herself The book is boring, repeats itself a lot and has done nothing for me The Toscane descriptions and environment are ok but a lot of the characters are very shallow and the big fat pink and flowery happy ending annoyed the crap out of me.

    21. Domenica de Rosa describes evocative Tuscan scenes and includes a range of characters in this light, easy read novel Generally happy endings and mouth watering food descriptions made this a winner for me Just don t read this if you don t want to be inspired to cook Italian food, or even to write a novel yourself

    22. I really enjoyed this book The plot is carefully intertwined, the hints for aspiring authors are not boring, the descriptions of Tuscany are charming but with a subtle sense of humor, the characters start by being a bit stereotyped but soon evolve into interesting personalities and I do not mind the happy ending Maria Carmo,Lisbon 19th August 2013.

    23. I thought I would enjoy this book as I love books set in Italy, but I just couldn t get into it at all I did like some of the characters but it all felt too far away and strained to really get stuck into it I didn t like the writing style and it made me feel as though I was reading it through someone else, if that makes sense So I m very disappointed.

    24. It is a light and simple story 7 wannabe authors gather at an Italian resort to gain some insight in to how to publish a best seller While there is not much to the story , the book does justice to the charm of Italy and it s cuisine The one thing admirable was the author writing in different styles of writing to reflect that of each of the characters.
