    1. I got this book for free from Making Connections, in exchange of an honest review Get Your Copy Here.Since GR doesn t allow half star ratings, this book is getting 3 stars when it was like a 3.5 for me I had just finished an epic fantasy book and was prepared not to like this one too much but boy, did I love it What I really loved about the story was that it was told from Estin s POV we keep reading about huge wars where part animal creatures come to the aid of humans but we almost never get to [...]

    2. In Wilder Lands marks the second anthropomorphic fantasy story I ve read and I must say, I m quickly becoming a fan of these types of adventures I have to give kudos where it s deserved The author has created a wonderful, realistic world populated with humans, dwarves, elves, and a variety of wildlings , creatures that are humanoid but with traits of various animals The wildlings aren t looked upon with too much favor, as they are constantly being caught, sold into slavery, kept on leashes, etc [...]

    3. I love dystopian novels, especially long ones I thought In Wilder Lands had a strong premise, unique characters, and it flowed really well The author made some bold moves plot wise and it paid off in the end The story dealt with themes of slavery, coming of age, romance, and overcoming personal obstacles I thought the lead character Estin was well developed, entertaining to read about, and he wasn t one of those infallible annoying Mary Sue characters Feanne, Finth, and Yoska were also interesti [...]

    4. Tell me I am not a slave, but put a leash on me and I will call you a liar Estin just wants be left alone, in a world where his kind are hated and thought of as slaves Haunted by memories of his mother s capture and his father s beating, Estin struggles to survive and keep from being captured Until the day he meets Feanne.Estin finds himself doing things he never imagined his kind of wildling to do fighting and protecting rather than running and hiding Feanne touches Estin like no other, and he [...]

    5. It took me forever to finally read this book I know But once I did I have to admit that I REALLY enjoyed this book I loved the main character Estin, who is a half human animal or humanoid struggling to survive in the city of the slums But that all changes when Estin sets out on a journey that will put his beliefs to the test and will teach him how to survive being a species that is being hunted as prey. The world that Galford created was very believable and magical at the same time It was very di [...]

    6. And now for something completely different or at least, new to me Estin, the hero of this book, is a wildling, a kind of humanoid animal, one of whole variety of such animals superficially resembling actual animals fox, bear, ferret, etc but able to speak and act in many ways like humans They live in packs in the woods, but their lifestyle is not unlike a kind of technology free human existence It s an uneasy juxtaposition Estin has an enhanced sense of smell, he has fur, he climbs well with cla [...]

    7. I love the characterization in this book Galford paints believable, interesting characters who are caught up in events much larger than their immediate understanding Eldvar is a land in turmoil where a war between city states has lasted an unstated period of time beyond the current generation A third party is about to enter play, and raise the stakes to levels previously unimagined Galford manages to keep the focus on the characters and their own personal stories, while at the same time keeping [...]

    8. To see my full review wp p1jhaj 3uaThis is a very well written fantasy novel, complete with world building, magic, wildings, gypsies, orcs, dwarves, war, and the undead It s an epic journey, transcending many years, trials, and tribulations for Estin as he struggles not only in the city of man, orphaned and alone, evading slavery, but also in the in the woods, meeting Feanne and her clan, learning healing magic and patrolling against the undead. The entire premise of the novel is absolutely amazi [...]

    9. In Wilder Lands by Jim Galford tells the story of Estin Estin is a wildling, a race of humanoid animals He is the only one of his kind that he knows of and as the story begins he is living in the slums of a city stealing to survive Wildlings exist only on the very fringe of human society and it is not an unusual occurrence for them to be scooped up and sold as slaves When a theft that turns out to be much than he bargained for goes south he is forced to flee the city Luckily for him he hooks up [...]

    10. New author Jim Galford shows excellent world building skills in this novel about ostracism and community in a world on the brink of destruction Estin is an improbable hero, an animal person living in a city where his kind are considered second class citizens When his life takes a sudden turn, Estin begins a journey that will show him what is important for a quality life, and how to survive in a constantly changing environment. This book introduces the reader to the world of Eldvar in a rapid fire [...]

    11. I feel bad.I tried really hard to get into this book But about halfway through 58% in according to my Kindle app , I gave up the ghost I don t think it s necessarily the author s fault I haven t read a whole lot of epic fantasy other than Song of Ice and Fire and some Tolkein, maybe this book is par for the course For me, it dragged a lot and I just couldn t seem to get invested in Estin as a character Initially it moved pretty quickly with Estin on the run and then meeting Feanne kind of wish F [...]

    12. One of the absolute best books I have ever read The beginning was a bit slow and took a while to get into but once the actual action began the story unraveled into a rich and enthralling universe that was easy to feel part of I have read every installment of the series to date and can say quite honestly that the series is an emotional roller coaster where laughing and crying come hand in hand Absolutely recommend to anyone with an open mind an at least a bit of maturity Not a story I d read to k [...]
