    1. When I was a teenager, a little older than I d like to admit, I haunted the library looking for Gothic romance novels No, I m not talking about Gothic romances which might be impressive like The Mysteries of Udolpho one of the books that inspired Northanger Abbey Nope, I m talking about the really crappy ones that were published in the 1960s and 70s They had covers that always included a girl running from a dark and foreboding castle, her dress whipping in the savage wind.If you actually read on [...]

    2. I was than ready to LOVE this book God knows I m a huge fan of that kind of Historical Dark Gothic Paranormal story, but I found it really too confusing For me there was simply too much going on Oh, it s so frustrating but regardless of this, I find that in a way the author put her own interesting spin on the Vampire Myth

    3. I thoroughly LOVED this book, devoured it One of those reads in which I m already hoping for a sequel before I m even finished What an exquisite pleasure The Lovely Beast was Sensual, erotic Dark Emotional Poetic In fact, the poetic, antique prose was one of my favorite aspects I d read and loved other works by this author that had a noir ish feel to them So this departure was a surprise and ranked right up there with her other books and gave the reader a delightful glimpse of her talented vari [...]

    4. A Joyfully Jay review 3 starsThe Lovely Beast is a strange mix of historical, steampunk, and supernatural I was really intrigued by the premise, and I very much wanted to like this book But I have to admit that I spent much of the book simply lost I just didn t understand a lot of what was going on I had to take numerous breaks, and I just couldn t get drawn into the story In fact, if I m completely honest, I had to make myself finish the book. The one thing the author does exceptionally well is [...]

    5. There were a bunch of things I liked about this book like the twist on the vampire myth, the use of mythology, and certain characters that were brought into the story The structure of the plot and pacing slowly fed you details as the story progressed which kept much of the mystery going throughout the book. This type of book isn t my usual cup of tea, but that didn t keep me from being interested in how the story progressed The part that I disliked the most was that there were a bunch of typos an [...]

    6. You are a spectacular storyteller and historian The way you forged fact and fiction, and brought them together in a supernatural way was divine There were times I was waiting for the name Dracula to appear in the beginning, but was like blood wasn t what Caleb craved the myth It was do beautiful how Victor Frankenstein, and his creation Darius was an intricate part of the whole experience You tied religion, spirituality, paranormal, and natural beings in a well rounded and scripted tale of love [...]

    7. This is truly a strange story Sure the main plot is rather good and pulling But then all the memory and diary entries from Jacob and Caleb, gave the story of their past, a weirdly mysterious, even sinister under plot Even so, ending was acceptable and good, nonetheless I have to confess, the writing style by this author wasn t for me, it was in 3 POV.

    8. Thought this was going to be so cool sadly it s just not my cup of tea It takes place in 1897, somewhere in Europe there is all this talk about God and evil, some Council and a Watcher and some hundreds of years old monster to be stopped form restoring his death wife I knew it just wouldn t work for me, therefore DNF 8%.
