I ve been reading a lot of Mormon Literature lately Just in the past few months I have finished Doug Thayer s The Tree House, Todd Robert Petersen s Rift, Nephi Anderson s Added Upon, and now, his Dorian I plan to make my way through the curriculum for a 15 week course on the Mormon novel, as suggested by Scott Hales at A Motley Vision I ve expanded it to 17 weeks to capture a couple recent works, but let s be honest here, I m not completing the required reading in a matter of weeks Too slow As [...]

    2. I probably liked it than most people, as it was written by my great grandfather But I really did enjoy the writing It took me a little while to get into it, but then I couldn t put it down It s fun to read older Mormon fiction, kind of a fun glimpse into the past.

    3. Anderson s best novel Still has teaching moments, but Dorian s and Carlia s love story is tender with out being sentimental.

Dorian was written in 1921 by the LDS author of Added Upon Added Upon weaves spiritual and religious themes so well throughout the story, but in Dorian those themes come across as a bit preachy and like the author is trying too hard Besides Uncle Zed s overly long words of wisdom though the story is actually quite good, and I was happy to see Dorian mature towards the end of the book because sometimes I just wanted to slap him He is 16 when the story opens and follows him into his 20 s I loved a [...]
