    1. Everybody ought to read this book about Joan of Arc by Marcia Quinn Noren Not because it is beautifully written and entertaining, and not because it comes to life because of the author s overriding interest and compassion for her subject, but because Joan, a teenaged maiden at the end of the Dark Ages, did in fact astonishingly change world history, when she became the catalyst to help the French restore their monarchy and drive the English out of France It doesn t matter whether one is Catholic [...]

    2. I knew nothing of Joan of Arc or the hundred years war, I knew nothing of the inquisition either and to be very honest I admit that the subject of divinity rarely surfaces in my daily thoughts Divinity is for theologians and those types that study the bible and like to quote bits of it to the rest of us.So I am an atheist or worse still a bungling agnostic, and I am also beware of book waving bigots who strive to shake me from my complacency, and demand from me the suspension of logic and fact, a [...]

    3. Perhaps the phrase Legend in Her Own Time was invented to describe Jehanne d Arc, for that she certainly was A historical figure without compare, in an era of patriarchy, Joan blazed her own trail across a wartime sky At age seventeen in 1429 she had changed the outcome of The Hundred Years War Canonized as a saint by Roman Catholicism in 1929, non Catholics overlook her mysticism and visions So was she a Genius, as later historical figures declared, or a Mystic or was she both at once Despite a [...]

Marcia Quinn Noren approaches the subject of Joan of Arc s life from a fresh angle that of her spirituality and the Voices This is clear from the very beginning, yet the author has maintained a tone that is non intrusive and beautifully balanced, laying before the reader material from people with whom the Maid of Orleans came into contact, as well as evidence from the transcripts of her trials The language is clear, the story uncluttered by the sort of historical detail that can render history b [...]

Ms Noren took the time to thoroughly research Joan from a different perspective than most He story is clean, tight, and well informed The book itself is tastefully done, with wonderful color photographs, a crisp cover and nice layout I enjoy books on history that give personal insights into the lives of the characters Joan s time was an incredible journey, for such a short life She made an impact that has spanned the ages, and Marcia did a wonderful job of detailing her story It s a quick read w [...]

    8. This book is a fascinating examination of Joan s life through her own testimony Largely based on the testimony of the Trial of Condemnation wherein Joan was eventually sentenced to burn at the stake and the Trial of Nullification wherein the findings of the first Trial were deemed null , Noren presents a unique view of the events from the testimony of those who were there.Even though I ve read much about Joan of Arc previously, I have never before firmly come down on the side of believer or cyni [...]

    9. When you read Marcia Quinn Noren s study of Jeanne d Arc, it becomes clear from the beginning that she has devoted years of careful research, and has made every decision in terms of the layout and arrangement of the text and the photographs The writer aims to provide readers with a substantive essence of the story, by quoting directly from the records of the trial Jeanne d Arc became a legend in her time and remains a mystery to this day She changed the course of a savage war that ravaged France [...]
