    1. A very moving and effective story of a real person s experience of not just being a hostage under Isis, but also all the ordeals involved in negotiating the release of these hostages Ever since the infamous video of James Foley came out, I have always wanted to know the stories behind these journalists who risks their lives documenting in war zones What prompted them to do it in the first place How did they managed to get themselves kidnapped I can t decide whether its stupidity or bravery that [...]

The ISIS HostageOne Man s True Story of Thirteen Months in Captivityby Puk DamsgardPegasus BooksBiographies MemoirsPub Date 09 May 2017 I am voluntarily reviewing The Isis Hostage Through Pegasus Books and Netgalley In May of 2013 Puk Damsgard had returned home to Beirut after two weeks of reporting in Yabrud, a Syrian City A reporter named Daniel Rye is already being held hostage by Isis Extremists. In August of 2014 a video is uploaded to youtube showing the murder of American Freelance Journal [...]

    6. A harrowing, unflinching account of 13 terrifying months.Rye Damsg rd don t omit any shocking details, drawing you further into what can only be described as depraved treatment of humans by humans.I felt it started a bit slowly as such books are wont to do, get the hooks in etc with the little teaser start then going back to before the capture, but the time that Daniel spent in captivity was really well pitched with a growing sense of dread the whole time as he fought to stay alive and the famil [...]

    7. It is a very thought provoking book and this book is haunting me I really wish this book was a fiction, but it wasn t I have to remind myself that it s a true story Some parts of this book are very difficult to read After finished the last page, I closed the book, and don t know what to do My heart goes out to Daniel and to every other hostage that has been captured and killed I can t think of what their family must be going through.I give it my highest rating Puk Damsg rd is an awesome writer.T [...]

    12. Interesting and harrowing book about a mans kidnapping and imprisonment at the hands of ISIS The inner strength that humans can find to see them through situations like this never cease to amaze me Being picky, I did find the writing style quite flat, but that is probably to do with the translation.

    13. The part WITHOUT Spoilers The book was a moving affair right from the first chapter What was interesting was the perspectives it showed the hostage, his family, and the negotiator The better part of the book in any way, it does not speak against any religion or converts, but rather gives an overview of the real life scenario since it s based on a true story The Gruesome parts the beatings, etc weren t so graphic to make the book cringe worthy, but the psychology of every situation was presented [...]

    14. Oh, the humanity My thanks go out to my contacts at Pegasus Books, Iris Blasi, Katie McGuire, and Maia Larson, for my advance copy of this book You ladies rock To read this book is to enter a nightmare of hellish proportions As you travel with Daniel Rye Ottosen along his journey of torture, starvation, and constantly changing prisons, you cannot help but feel the harsh emotions and helplessness wash over you What this man has endured no human should ever have to face Especially when one is not [...]

    15. Puk Damsg rd s The ISIS Hostage is as gripping as it is horrifying Daniel Rye s story is both heart breaking and in some ways inspiring, he not only survived his captivity he managed to put himself back together again Daniel s willingness to tell his story and the stories of those he was held with is important to our understanding of the crisis gripping much of the world I m glad that he told us of the good times and showed how people can come together under even the most extreme of conditions.P [...]

    17. Just amazing Read it I went to a lecture with Daniel Rye before reading the book, and that might also have affected my experience of the book But reading the book was such a strong experience Daniel step out of the book and once again tell his story, with an even greater voice And this time he invited people around him to tell his story Because this is what Damsg rd have done, she as collected all the stories and voven together a beautiful, though traumatic, piece of history Very good job it rec [...]

    18. Sp ndende fortalt, sympatisk hovedperson, grundigt researchet, interessante detaljer, effektivt sprog, tilpas med baggrund Samlet set en virkelig god pageturner fuldt p h jde med fiktive historier i samme genre Kan varmt anbefales.

    19. Really well written and unbelievably sad So many parallels between this book and the guantanamo bay accounts I have read Evil people exist everywhere and have the same twisted methods to punish innocent people for crimes they didn t commit.

    21. even though this book is non fictional, the way the author wrote it was just mind blowing She gathered each and every little information, and combined it very systematically.

    22. Loved the book, especially the way it was written. It was great how the book follows not only Daniel, but his family and the security consultant.

    23. A book of survival, staying sane and keeping the spirits high despite the abusive behaviour of the IS Recommended book.
