    1. Cute ending to the series I m surprised they didn t talk at all about the orphan train they mentioned so many times in the peek into the past section though I would ve liked to have learned about NYC in 1904 and orphanages like the story focused on.

    2. Now that s how you finish a series I forgot how much I love these books and can t wait to read of the girls adventures

    3. I liked this one quite a bit, though I wonder if I m the only one jarred to such big changes in Samantha s life since the last book I was very startled to find her in a new home, with new guardians I m wondering if reading the short stories might help to fill in the gap.Is anyone else bothered by the way the years run in this book In the first book, which takes place in the fall of 1904 when she s living with her grandmother, to this one where it is February in what if you take the books in orde [...]

    5. Okay, so this last book in the Samantha series was actually fun to read Although when I started to read in an accent for some of the Irish characters, Abby told me to stop it It had a sweet ending that wrapped up what Samantha is all about and Abby and I both enjoyed it.

    6. Historically set in the winter of 1904, a young girl named Samantha Parkington sets out on a mission to find a solution for her friend Nellie Nellie s parents had passed away from the flu, and she is sent to live with her Uncle, Mike O Malley in downtown New York Samantha has recently moved to New York City as well to live with her Aunt Cornelia and Uncle Gard She quickly discovers that life in the city is not as charming as it was back in her hometown of Mount Bedford When searching for the loc [...]

    7. Samantha is living with Aunt Cornelia and Uncle Gard in New York City after Grandmary married The Admiral She misses Nellie a lot Then she gets a Letter from Nellie with horrible news Will Samantha ever see Nellie again I liked this one a lot I was really pulled into the story even though I know the basics of what happened I watched the movie I liked the books better than the movie but I also really like the movie The entire series is quite different from the movie though If you have only seen t [...]

    8. Social Awareness in Turn of the Century NYC For those familiar with the delightful American Girls series, Valerie Tripp presents Victorian Samantha in 1904, the 5th chronologically in a series featuring 7 different girls eras in American history and ethnicities Each young female protagonist stars in 6 books in her own mini series after a story of 5 chapters some 60 pages readers are treated to an easy introduction into the s and fashions of the day in the final, non fictionsection, A PEEK INTO T [...]

    9. In this book Samantha is living with her Uncle Gard and Aunt Cornelia while her Grandmary is off on her honeymoon with her new husband Everything seems good and normal until Samantha gets a letter from her best friend Nellie Nellie says that her parents have died from the flu it was 1904 and that she was being sent to live with her Uncle Mike She said she would visit as soon as she could Samantha waited and waited and Nellie didn t come Two weeks had passed and still no Nellie Samantha s Uncle G [...]

    10. Another charming addition to the American Girls series Anyone who enjoyed reading about Samantha s adventures will be very pleased with how her story finally comes to an end As a young girl, this was my very first American Girl book don t ask why I chose the sixth book in one of the girls series to start long story , and as I re read this, it was easy for me to see why I was so drawn to these girls, and especially Samantha The creators of these books established historical role models for young [...]

    11. This book, although very short and easy to read, belongs in the Young Adult genre because Samantha, the protagonist, is 10 years old the same age as Auggie and it had a YA sticker on the spine at the library It is a historical fiction book about a girl who lives in New York with her aunt and uncle in New York, who discovers that her friend that she knew when she lived with her grandmother in Mount Bedford, has come to New York after the death of her parents Samantha, desperate to see her best fr [...]

    12. Samantha has missed Nellie and then receives bad news, that Nellie s parents have died This sets Samantha on a hunt to find them and she finally does, but they re in an orphanage which is run by an extremely mean woman.Samantha comes up with the idea that Nellie and her two sisters should run away from the orphanage and come stay with Samantha, at least until Nellie can find some kind of job to do to support herself and her two sisters Of course, keeping three girls hidden in a house while suppl [...]

    13. I think Changes For Samantha is just as good as the others Amazing Samantha is staying at her Aunt s and Uncle s house in New York City because her grandmother got married so her And the Admiral Samantha s Grandmother s new husband Went to the ocean on his yacht Well after a while Nellie and her 2 sisters had to go to New York City adoption place for house maids Samantha helped the three girls escape from the adoption place because they picked Nellie to go on the train West So the the 4 girls wo [...]

    14. I watches the DVD of Samantha An American Girl Holiday It was 1904 and Samantha lives with her Grandmary since her parents died in an accident She makes friends with a servant girl Nellie who lives next door She goes to stay with her uncle and his new wife in New York and finds out that Nellie and her sisters have ended up in an orphanage there I like watching the DVD because the details of the house that she lives in and the city of New York in the early 1900s was better than I would have pictu [...]

    15. This book was my favorite Samantha book as a child and after reading it, is still my favorite Samantha moves in for the winter to New York with her aunt and uncle Nellie mom died so she has to find work to take care of her younger two sister She ends up being put in a horrible orphanage and the girls are treated badly so Samantha sneaks them out and hide them in her aunts and uncles house and sneaks food in for them When they get caught it seems as if they have to go back, but her aunt and uncle [...]

    16. In Changes for Samantha, young Samantha helps her friend Nellie, along with Nellies two younger sisters, escape from an abusive situation After Nellie s parents died, the girls were sent to live with their uncle, who took all their money and abandoned them Samantha must search New York City to find them, and works hard to make their lives better.I found this book wonderful It was great to see a story about such a young person transforming the lives of others for better Samantha s bravery and com [...]

    17. Samantha is DETERMINED to get Nellie, Bridget, and Jenny out of an orphanage She is able to visit on Sundays, but Sam feels like that s not enough When she secretly takes the girls out of Coldrock House for Girls, the maid finds out Nellie, Bridget, Jenny, and Samantha are in trouble I m sorry Samantha starts, I shouldn t have done it without asking But the people at Coldrock House weren t being nice I m really sorry But it s Valentine s Day, and Samantha s aunt and uncle have agreed to take the [...]

    18. This is a rousing finale to the Samantha series, although I always wished there were Samantha lives in New York with her favorite Uncle Gard, but she misses her friend Nellie When Nellie disappears, Samantha uses her sleuthing skills to find her in an orphanage, but it is not a pleasant place and the girls devise a scheme to get her out It was always fun to read stories about characters I related to doing things I would never have the freedom to do in real life This is an excellent example of t [...]

    19. In the sixth and final book of the Samantha series, Samantha experiences much change She now lives a halcyon life in New York City with Uncle Gard and Aunt Cornelia Sadly, her best friend Nellie lives in an oppressive orphanage run by the odious Tusnelda Frouchy Shortly before Nellie is due to leave on the orphan train, Samantha and Nellie plan a daring escape from the orphanage Interesting children s historical fiction set at the turn of the twentieth century.

    20. Times change for smantha when she moves to New York City with uncle gard and Aunt Corneilia Things change for almost everyone espcially Nellie, but nellie s changes aren t happy like samantha s are When Nellie disapears samantha feels as if she has been lost forever But after a very long and dangerous search, Samantha you will have to read the book to find out D this book is sad but it can be happy

    21. Buddy read with my grand niece Samantha is persistant in locating her friend, Nellie and Nellie s two younger sisters after Samantha receives a letter saying they are moving to New York City Samantha helps the three girls escape their deplorable circumstances This is one of the better American Girl paperbacks The Peek into the Past historical essay regarding women s evolving role in the American workforce, and also how women s fashions changed was most interesting.

    22. A light story about friendship and self discovery There was a lot jumping around in the book from why Samantha s home was new and the detialed history of her friend she was trying to help It was sad but enjoyable I think a lot of the details in this book would be lost on young girls today because the times have changed so much Once again I enjoyed the historical information at the end of the book and the little additional notes through book that the story itself.

    23. The sixth book in the Samantha series of stories for the American Girl Collection, this is a heartwarming tale that is a page right out of Charles Dickens stories Samantha once again saves the day for her little friend, Nellie, and learns a little bit about the big, bad world out there, away from her sheltered, rich life Our girls loved the storyI can t say the same, but it was entertaining A bit predictable, but entertaining nonetheless.

    24. While this books was totally predictable it was still a better direction in writing and information about the time than other books in this particular American Girls Series Samantha s best friend Nellie and her three sisters has become orphaned after the sudden death of their parents Life has always been difficult for Nellie but now its than any child should have to endure Watching her friend suffer so propels Samantha to take extreme action.

    25. This was my favorite book out of the Samantha story I like Nellie and her sisters and how much she had to overcome and how strong she is I am glad that Samantha doesn t care about her social class and that her aunt and uncle support her Samantha is an amazing friend and also a strong young lady She is definetely someone to look up to.

    26. This review is from the perspective of a mother, and I just can t suspend disbelief enough to buy the ending of the series, even though they ve been clearly building to it for awhile It makes for adventurous and suspenseful reading, but unlikely When I do read these with my daughter, I ll have to explain the improbability.

    27. I read this one before number 5, because someone played with my pile , but this was the one that probably has the most I ll need to talk with her about people die from the flu and their children end up in an unpleasant orphanage It was still OK but I will want to talk to her.

    28. I just love the American Girl book series as having read a few with Samantha my daughter They are great books that help the girls learn about American History I love them for her She of course, loves the dolls also especially one in particular
