    1. The Great Birthright struck a particular chord inside me It was a soothing read that was too brisk in a way that left me wanting But, I wanted in a very good way It enlightened true inherent characteristics of Oregon and its people that most are too stubborn to notice This is especially the case considering it takes a great deal talent to seamlessly weave it into the pages of a book While the undeniable socialist lens our protagonist takes on his unwavering journey to prevent an unfortunate f [...]

    2. there had been nothing like this in the history of the world or a scene like this in this history of world literature why not write it why not try to imagine a better world through fiction why not invent a new literary genre to imagine that better world why not invent pulp utopian detective environmentalist fantasy naked class conscious, socialist neo realism polemical quality lit metafiction his entertaining 14th book, the great birthright an oregon novel, marks matt love s first foray into fic [...]

    3. Love characterizes this book as a pseudo pulp historical environmental detective socialist meta fiction And that is much closer than I can come to describing this book It starts with a quote from Supreme Court Justice Scalia s dissent of the SCOTUS decision upholding Oregon s Beach Bill and ends with a tribute to Love s beach companion dog, Sonny It includes a very good history of how Oregon s beaches came to be preserved for for all It is laugh out loud funny and a call to action.

    4. While I would not call this a great novel , I do enjoy Love s writing and this piece has provided him an opportunity to cover all the elements of his coastal passions from dogs to driftwood forts, from rain to beer, from Matt Kramer to Tom McCall public beach heroes And the ending is fantastic and perhaps not a fantasy put this on your calendars and plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Oregon Beach Bill at the beach on 7 7 17

    5. Part history, part memoir, part novel, part rant this latest book from Matt Love is an intentional cross genre work It is a love letter to the Oregon Coast and to those who have preserved it for public use It is also a warning flare, sent up to alert us to the possibility that private interests will try to encroach upon this public good, this statewide birthright.

    6. A unique story, part memoir, part fiction 57% , part history of the Beach Bill Includes photos and a touching dedication to Sonny, the author s dog There s also a call to hit the beaches on 7 7 2017 for the 50th anniversary of the Beach Bill, clothing optional.
