    1. This is a thrilling YA masterpiece I could not wait to get to the end to see how it all resolves it was finished within 24 hours In fact, it was finished in like 6 straight hours of refusing to leave my bed on a Saturday The thrill is a slow burn it feels natural without feeling forced or fake It seems realistic like this could actually happen in any small town The high school scenes are relatable as well all too often I read stories set in high school that don t involve characters that make ch [...]

    2. Review trigger warning statutory rape, pedophilia mention, abortion mention Arguably my largest pet peeve when it comes to reading is when a book seems awesome but then it decides to do you wrong and include unchallenged problematic crap. This book was amazing for the first 75 percent Maybe a tad heteronormative, but a person can forgive The writing style was compelling and easy to follow, the characters were three dimensional and relatable, and the mystery was original and had me at the edge of [...]

    3. After reading Little Monsters, I know this will be another masterpiece by Kara Thomas aka the queen of suspense

    4. This was a good YA thriller, though I think I liked Little Monsters a bit I think the reveals worked really well in this book, it kept you reading There were some unexpected things that happened that def had me on the edge of my seat I also liked how some things were revealed to not necessarily be anything crazy, without spoiling anything for you The twists and turns didn t stop coming until the book ended, which is always appreciated I think the idea, in general, is really creative I like how [...]

    5. It should go without saying that I loved this book so freaking much Perhaps it s because I wasn t aware of what True Crime story it was based off of it s not, is it Or that it was like reading a true crime narrative, but as fiction for young adults It was different, but in a really good way And also similar to The Darkest Corners and Little Monsters, in the same genre same tone Told through Monica s perspective, the story is a mystery Monica is searching for the truth of what really happened to [...]

    6. Woof That was an intense read Thank you Netgalley and Random House Children s Publishing for an arc of this book My views are entirely my own.Okay, let s try this again I wrote out a long, beautiful review yesterday, only for my computer to gobble it up It has now disappeared into the nexus never to return again, and I doubt I will be so eloquent this time I will try though Let me start by saying that this is a fantastic book It is moving, intense, heart breaking and gripping You won t be able t [...]

    7. Just what I needed This one kept me guessing and the drama was CRAZY I was hooked from the first two lines and that last chapter was perfect I love creepy endings Gonna have to pick up of Kara Thomas books now.

    8. Sunnybrook is a town without a cheerleading squad First came the car crash killing two girls Then there was the murder of two members of the squad When a fifth member of the squad dies under tragic circumstances the squad is disbanded Now, five years later, the school is working on planning a memorial and the last thing Monica wants to do is remember what happened to her sister, especially while dealing with the upheaval in her life as it is But when Monica stumbles on to a mystery she can t he [...]

    9. Got an eGalley from edelweiss for an honest review If you enjoy suspense and mystery you will enjoy this Much better then Stephanie Perkins try at it with There s Someone inside Your House But again plenty mystery not enough gore for me The story line was very gritty and hardcore for teen fiction, but I am not going to say that is a bad thing This kind of stuff can happen in real life, its just I am not sure I want my teenage girl reading about some of this subject matter I kind of felt like Mon [...]

    10. I really enjoyed this book The protagonist was likeable and there were several twists that I wasn t expecting The side characters were also great Fast paced, I blazed through it in a night This is my favorite kind of horror slasher fiction because everyone is three dimensional and it s written well I m less fond of the cookie cutter books in this genre where everyone is just unlikeable and not well developed I m going to have to pick up her other books

    11. The mystery aspect of this book is good, and the ending is not quite what I expected but I do wish that there was examination of the very problematic adult teen relationship at the center of a lot of it.

    12. TRIGGER WARNING for this book rape, abortion This was a fast and engaging read I was initially concerned because there were very serious topics brought up and I wasn t sure how if they were going to be addressed Some of these include abortion, statutory rape, and date rape However, most of these are addressed later on in the book One incident that was not addressed, which I think should have been is a very brief part that occurs towards the beginning of the book in which date rape at a party was [...]

    13. THE CHEERLEADERS was pitched as a little bit Riverdale and a little bit Veronica Mars, and the description could not be accurate Well, it lacks the classic Veronica Mars sass but that s pretty difficult to replicate Kara Thomas doesn t really seem to believe in a slow build from the opening chapter, we see real physical and emotional pain as well as some very well rounded characters For a murder mystery, there are red herrings and misdirects aplenty I read mysteries than pretty much anything e [...]

    14. 2.5 I received a digital review copy from NetGalley I spent a lot of my time reading this book annoyed with the main character I didn t agree with a lot of her choices and I think she did some unnecessarily risky things She also alienated herself from her friends while trying to solve this case, which I understand since her sister was involved, but what bugged me was when she d notice something off about them she wouldn t say anything and just let it go There was also a weird super small romanti [...]

    15. Damn Arc provided by NetGalley 4 stars.I was actually surprised by the twisty ending in this mystery So, 5 years before the story begins, 5 cheerleaders die in 3 separate incidents Two in a car crash, two were murdered, and one killed herself The one who killed herself s name is Jen, and was the sister of the lead character, Monica Around the fifth anniversary of all their deaths, Monica stumbles upon something that makes her suspect things weren t as they seemed. The author captures the high sch [...]

    16. Kara Thomas s writing is phenomenal and I adored Little Monsters, but this one was painstakingly obvious on who the killer was and there wasn t any suspense With the approaching anniversaries of the death of five cheerleaders, Monica befriends Ginny and they conduct their own investigation on what happened since they felt the police overlooked a lot of clues Monica imitated her deceased sister Jen since she felt isolated from her friends and participated in the same activities, so the theme hist [...]

    17. TheCheerleaders KaraThomas NetgalleyThank you to Netgalley and Random House Children s Publishing Wowwhere to begin The Cheerleaders was an unexpected knock out for me I happened upon it on Netgalley and really didn t give it much thought beyond that until I started reading it The pace of the novel is perfect and the author gives you just enough nibbles through out to keep you turning the page Kara Thomas twists the plot around and you feel like you know where it s going, but guess what You don [...]

    18. Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review HOLY COW THIS BOOK What I loved All the things All the twists All the turns All WAITWHAT moments that this author delivered What I liked The author didn t hold back Not one second did she hold back She brought up stuff that teens really deal withe adult decisions they are frequently forced to make What I hated Can t say I hated anything per se There were a couple of characters that I felt were flat, but nothing that ruined this book [...]

    19. Oh my goodness The Cheerleaders is FIRE There are multiple stories contained within, taking the reader from past to present There are red herrings throughout, so the reader cannot really solve the murders Two cheerleaders die in a car accident on a rainy road Two cheerleaders are murdered by the man next door, who is then killed in a police action shooting A fifth cheerleader commits suicide Or did she How are the deaths of these five related ARE they related I am so appreciative to NetGalley an [...]

    20. 5 cheerleaders die in a short amount of time in a small town, 2 in a car accident, 2 in a murder by a neighbor and 1 suicide A few years later, a sister of one of the teenagers begins to wonder if the deaths were connected and if the police correctly solved the crimes Monica finds clues in her sister s old cell phone and in notes she finds in her dad s locked desk She learns secrets about her sister as she searches for the truth There are lots of mysteries are along the way in this book.

    21. Me Okay, I have to pay attention, Kara is the master of twist endings.Me Okay, I think this is a red herring and this and this wtf and this HM MAYBE IT WAS THIS PERSON okay maybe not OH HEY I WAS RIGHTTHE ENDING YEAH BITCH YOU GUESSED WHO DID IT BUT YOU DID NOT SEE THIS COMING And that was how the ending of this book sent chills down my spine and made me just fucking pause and go jfc That ending was up there with the endings of Dangerous Girls The Darkest Corners.

    22. I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review This is a great book for fans of There s Someone Inside Your House and Vanishing Girls It is a well written mix of creepy and suspenseful This book addresses some really tough subjected, but I think the author handled them really well Ultimately, I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading from this author.

    23. I think Kara Thomas may have landed on my automatic excitement list of authors with this one She does conflicted, complex characters and sensible plot twists really well P.S This may just be me, but was anyone else shipping view spoiler Monica and Ginny kind of hardcore Obviously, girlfriend s got a lot going on both of them and I appreciate a lack of a true romantic storyline in a book, but I was totally feeling it and genuinely disappointed that it didn t have Monica and Ginny making out at so [...]

    24. I found this book surprisingly slow for the plot I don t feel like I got to know our main character, Monica, or her sister, whose death Monica was investigating, well enough And two of the deaths Monica was trying to solve weren t explored thoroughly enough The explanation of the deaths could easily have been brought into the plot, instead of being wrapped up as an afterward Apologies for the vagueness of this review, I m trying not to spoil anything.

    25. There are some intriguing twists and turns in this YA thriller, and I think many of my students will enjoy the mystery and suspense surrounding the suspicious desths of five high school cheerleaders The main character, Monica, doesn t know who to turn to or who to trust, a notion many teens may relate to I gave this three stars because I felt it was lacking action for a murder mystery suspense.

    26. 3.5 stars The mystery kept me rapt, and I found myself thinking about how I wanted to get back to reading it while I was doing other things It s definitely a fast, compulsive read I still can t decide how I feel about the ending rating may go up or down as it give it thought But the fact that I m giving it this much thought atball means it definitely had me hooked.

    27. IMO This is Kara Thomas best book to date I DEVOURED this booked it in one sittingen I had to let what I had just read simmer in my brain Loved this book Thanks to Random House for the ARC
